A Trip to Hua Hin

Just before Christmas we left Bangkok and took a trip to the beach.  The drive was about 3 hours to a town called Hua Hin.  It was a nice change of scenery, however, it was not the beach side I would have expected when speaking of the beaches in Thailand.  I always pictured something more tropical and exotic and this was far from.  We had been warned ahead of time that Hua Hin is sort of like Fort Lauderdale.  It's a very busy beach town with lots of buildings and unfortunately the beach front is very small.

Most of the hotels didn't have much of a beach front.  Most people who visit I guess enjoy just having a pool, but we wanted sand for Cristiano. We have a pool at the hotel, so we wanted something different.  We stayed at one of the only hotels with a beach front, the Anantasila.  It has very nice grounds, but the rooms were very dated.  Not complaining, just saying.

What we enjoyed the most about the trip was the time we spent outdoors.  We were outdoors all day for the three days we were there.  We swam, played in the sand, took walks along the beach looking for seashells with Cristiano, and we ate at the restaurant by the water.  The biggest disappointment was how dirty the beach was.  There were wild dogs everywhere doing their business in the sand we were playing with, horses waiting for riders who also took the opportunity to do their business on the beach, garbage in the sand, and a bunch of hawkers asking you every few minutes if you wanted to buy something.  It was like no other beach I have ever experienced.  Although we enjoyed the outdoors and the sand, three days was enough!
