Teita's Favourite Part (and ours too)

As some of you may know, Bangkok is famous for what my brother Micho calls "semi free massages". You can get an hour foot massage, which is not only a foot massage but an arm, neck and head massage, for 250 Thai Baht.  This is approximately $8 CDN.  Yes, you are reading right, only $8 for a full hour.  Don't be fooled, the massages are great and I can say they are far better than the massages we get back home.

Mom (a.k.a teita, grandma in Arabic) and I have tried both the foot massage and the full body massage.  The full body massage is 400 Thai Baht, approximately $13, for one hour.  Both are amazing!  We have had three massages in the two weeks we have been here and before we got here, Michael had been going twice a week.

The best part is that Nee Sun, our preferred massage parlour as per Michael's recommendation, is in Spooky Alley and is not even a five minute walk from our hotel.

You are greeted with the traditional Thai wai*.  You are then given slippers and usually there is someone to begin your massage right away without appointment needed.  Your feet are always washed before the massage and after the massage you are given green tea to sip before you leave.  It is a very relaxing experience.

Of course mom is loving her time with the kids, but her favourite cultural experience has been the massages and she will have one more tomorrow night before she leaves to go back home.

After the many hours of walking we do daily and carrying the kids (including carrying Cristiano in the stroller up and down the sky train stairs), the massages are very well needed and deserved.

* According to Wikipedia: "The Thai greeting referred to as the wai consists of a slight bow, with the palms pressed together in a prayer-like fashion".  Click here for information about the Thai wai.
